Peptide Storage & Handling Guidelines
Standard laboratory protocols for maintaining compound integrity in research settings.
Lyophilized Peptide Storage
| Condition | Requirement | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Long-term (lyophilized) | -20°C, desiccated, light-protected | Up to 24 months |
| Short-term (lyophilized) | 2–8°C, sealed, dry | Up to 3 months |
| Post-reconstitution | 2–8°C, do not refreeze | Up to 28 days |
Storage Protocols
-
❄
Temperature ControlStore lyophilized peptides at -20°C in a non-frost-free freezer. Frost-free units cycle above freezing periodically, which can degrade peptide integrity over time. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the intact vial.
-
💧
Moisture ProtectionLyophilized peptides are hygroscopic. Store vials sealed with desiccant in an airtight container. Allow cold vials to reach room temperature before opening to prevent moisture condensation on the peptide.
-
☀
Light ProtectionUV exposure degrades many peptide bonds. Store vials in opaque containers or in the dark. Do not leave vials on benchtops under laboratory lighting for extended periods.
-
🧪
ReconstitutionReconstitute with bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) for extended stability. Swirl gently – do not vortex or shake. Once reconstituted, refrigerate at 2–8°C. Do not refreeze reconstituted solution. Use within 28 days.
-
🧬
Sterile TechniqueUse aseptic technique when handling all peptide compounds. Work in a sterile environment where applicable. Use sterile solvents, sterile-filtered solutions, and sterile labware throughout.
Compound-Specific Notes
Disulfide-containing peptides (e.g., Oxytocin, Melanotan II): Particularly sensitive to oxidation. Minimize exposure to air after reconstitution; consider working under inert conditions for extended experiments.
GLP-1 class peptides (e.g., Semaglutide, Tirzepatide): Store lyophilized at -20°C. These compounds have defined stability windows in solution – consult primary literature for solvent optimization.
NAD+ precursors: Hygroscopic; particularly important to keep sealed and desiccated. Reconstitute immediately before use for best results in research assays.
